5 Steps for the Perfect Mother’s Day

45-03B32266 editedMombie dearest, we love you!

Mombie (n) Mom-be: A sleep-deprived supermom who feeds on caffeine and survives on sticky kisses and messy smiles. Mombies are master multi-taskers and suck-it-uppers.”

It’s almost Mother’s Day. The one day in spring where we thank our Mombies for all of those scraped knees she bandaged up, the dinners she cooked, the loads of laundry she washed and folded, the late night’s she stayed up when you had the flu and the way her hugs always made a bad day go away.

What will you do for your Mombie this Mother’s Day? Flowers? Breakfast in bed? What about a massage at the spa? Whatever you have planned for that marvelous Mom of yours this year, be sure you don’t forget to give her the best present every hard working Mom could use. Sleep.

We want you to look good and your Mombie to be happy so we complied 5 steps to help you accomplish a flawless Mother’s Day celebration this year.

Step 1: Let her sleep

Does your Mombie need more sleep than your Dad? According to the National Sleep Foundation, the answer is yes; “Women tend to multi-task and use more of their actual brain than men leading to a greater need for sleep.” If anyone can multitask like a pro its Mom. She can make dinner, help you with your homework, let the dog out, fix the broken light bulb and talk to her best friend on the phone all at the same time. And while your Mombie goes above and beyond, she probably isn’t getting the proper amount of sleep. For this reason be sure to let her sleep late this Mother’s Day. Plus it will give you time for step 2.

Step 2: Feed her

The classic breakfast in bed. Everyone needs to eat when they wake up and breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And to feed the most important woman of the day, here are some fun breakfast recipes for you to make for Mom.

Bagel quiche45-Bagel-Quiche

Ingredients

  • 1 bagel (any flavor that would go well w/ egg)
  • 2 to 3 large eggs
  • Desired fillings (such as cheese and chopped vegetables)

Showtime

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Spray a piece of foil with nonstick spray.
  2. Slice the bagel in half nice and evenly.
  3. Carefully hollow out the bread inside of the cut bagel using your fingers to pull the bread away from the crust of the bagel (discard or turn into breadcrumbs). Set the bagel, cut-side-up on the foil.
  4. Whisk 2 eggs and pour them into the hollowed out bagel. Place desired filling choices into the egg mixture. If the egg and filling does not fill the bagel completely, you can add another whisked egg on top.
  5. Wrap the bagel up the sides with the foil, but keep the top open to the heat of the oven. Bake 20 to 30 minutes, or until the egg is completely set. Timing will depend on how many eggs used and how large the bagel is. Serve immediately
  6. Tell your Mom to pick it up and eat it with her hands! Recipe via recipegirl.com.

Step 3: Pamper her45-02J92674 edited

Your Mombie deserves the very best, so how can you make her feel like a queen?

  • Pamper her with a spa package – Who doesn’t love a massage, facial or a manicure and pedicure? On a budget? Put together an at home spa basket with bubble bath, candles and incense, face mask, tea, a good book she’ll enjoy and a coupon to leave her alone for an evening to relax.
  • Treat her to dinner and a movie – Date night! Take Mom to her favorite restaurant and go see a movie. Rather stay in? Cook her favorite meal and rent her favorite movie. Don’t forget the popcorn.
  • Give her a day off – Pay for a maid to come clean the house so your Mom can relax for the day. Want to really impress Mom this year? Clean the house yourself. There are always dishes, laundry and vacuuming to be done.

Whether it’s a homemade coffee mug or something you found on Amazon that simply yelled MOM, you know Moms love everything we give them. Go classic with a bouquet of her favorite flowers or a beautiful piece of jewelry.

Or go off script and buy her something she can experience. Book a paint night where she can drink wine and paint a picture to take home. Take a trip with her to the local botanical gardens – picnic lunch included. Get creative and think about how she would love to spend her time.

Step 5: Nap time for your special Mombie

It may seem like we’re back at step one again, but trust me, your Mom could use a good nap. Besides what else will she do when you’re busy cleaning the house and making dinner? Naps can be rejuvenating, refreshing and completely necessary on days your Mom needs some chillax time. Let her know you have everything under control and send her on her way to her sleep sanctuary.

Our Moms deserve it all and we could never really repay them for all that they do, but giving her one day is the least we can do. How will you celebrate with your Mom this year?
