While they juggle responsibilities from designing stylish new offerings for Scott Living to planning yet another media event, they understand the need to take care of ourselves \u2013 body and mind. With everything the Scotts do, they always strive for better, smarter and healthier.<\/p>\n<h2>Sleep \u2013 a cornerstone of a healthy lifestyle<\/h2>\n<p>How will Drew and Jonathan tackle sleep in the new year \u2013 and beyond? \u201cLike a lot of people, we\u2019ve had time to practice better <a href=\"https:\/\/restonic.com\/es\/blog-es\/sources-of-drowsiness-and-fatigue-4957\">sleep habits<\/a> over much of the past year,\u201d says Drew. \u201cSo now we feel like pros! My wife, Linda, and I have found better sleep is a product of everything else we\u2019re doing in our lives. If we\u2019re eating better, exercising and investing in our relationships with family and friends, it naturally helps us sleep better. One good thing leads to another.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Jonathan is taking a slightly different approach. \u201cI hope I never have another Zoom call again,\u201d he explains. \u201cI\u2019m so ready to stop looking at screens and start spending time face-to-face with our parents, our brother, really anyone. Plus, <a href=\"https:\/\/restonic.com\/es\/blog-es\/electronics-bed-affects-sleep-9682\">less screen time<\/a> equals better sleep, so win-win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With their busy schedules, how do their sleep habits change when they\u2019re working versus when they\u2019re off? As Drew explains, \u201cOur sleep schedule was pretty consistent because we were so close to home this past year. Linda and I like to wake up early and work out because it helps us start the day well. It just makes us feel better.\u201d His sibling has made some shifts to his rituals. \u201cI think the biggest change to my sleep habits was getting more of it,\u201d says Jonathan. \u201cBut we\u2019re both similar in that we\u2019re ready to get up and get going, whether it\u2019s a workday or the weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Like many habits, a healthy sleep schedule is all about balance<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cIt can be hard to talk about it right now, but it\u2019s more important than ever,\u201d says Jonathan. \u201cThis year is going to be all about changes, so providing yourself structured time like a good night\u2019s sleep matters.\u201d Drew is on the same page, but with one difference to note: \u201cYeah, everyone can go for a little while without a routine, and sometimes it\u2019s good to let loose! But there are only so many movies and pints of ice cream you can go through before you think, I really need to have a schedule. Good <a href=\"https:\/\/restonic.com\/es\/healthy-sleep-es\/live-longer-healthy\">nutrition nurtures the body<\/a> and mind, but over the last year, it\u2019s been too easy for many of us to slip into some less-than-healthy habits as we navigate new stresses, from trying to work at home to assisting kids with online learning. The Scott brothers have also identified and are determined to quash those not-so-good habits in the new year.<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan says that 2020 turned him into a more passionate advocate on issues he cares about, like environmental sustainability\u2014but he had to acknowledge his limits. \u201cI felt like I had to know everything going on, all the time,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s important to know what\u2019s happening, but, of course, there has to be a limit. I\u2019m more focused now on a few key issues, while supporting others who might have different passions.\u201d Drew also is focusing on how to put more good into the world this year. \u201cThat means less time doom-scrolling and more time making plans and taking action,\u201d he notes.<\/p>\n<p>If better sleep tops your list of goals for the new year, begin with how you start your day. You\u2019ll be amazed at your ability to resist cravings later in the day.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Exercise<\/strong>. Now that you\u2019ve filled up your sleep gas tank, time to use some of that fuel to <a href=\"https:\/\/restonic.com\/blog\/energy-levels-daytime-fatigue-1029\">move your body<\/a>. You\u2019ll wake up just as the caffeine hits your system and be ready to take on the rest of your day.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ditch the energy drinks. <\/strong>They\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/restonic.com\/es\/blog-es\/why-cant-i-sleep\">steal your sleep\u00a0<\/a>and your sanity and can contribute to significant weight gain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Sweet dreams sleep tips<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Set your alarm for bedtime. <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/restonic.com\/es\/blog-es\/smart-bedtime-habits-better-sleep-3497\">Set an alarm<\/a> on your phone to remind you when it\u2019s time to start powering down electronics and get ready for sleep. Take 20 minutes to finish your chores, 20 minutes for personal hygiene and 20 minutes to read quietly or relax before lights out for the night. Think about your routines and assess which ones serve you well and which do not.
