Grinding ice machines, dinging elevators and bachelor parties just a few doors away from yours. The sleep fairies have their work cut out for them if you want to ensure a good night\u2019s snooze at some hotels.\u00a0Whether packing, racing to the airport or picking the perfect playlist for the road, do you ever think about getting a good night\u2019s sleep in the hotel? Too often our goals are to just make it to just make to check in on time and not look a hot mess. What about the bed? The hallway noise? Room placement?<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve created a go-to-guide to ensure a <a href=\"https:\/\/restonic.com\/es?p=28454\">good night\u2019s sleep in a hotel<\/a>, from booking to eliminating hallway noisemakers to ensure sweet dreams and a <a href=\"https:\/\/restonic.com\/es?p=28489\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">memorable trip<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Pack motel essentials before leaving home<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Earplugs<\/strong>. Uncomfortable \u2013 yes. Necessary \u2013 yes. Less annoying than hearing neighbors and hallway shenanigans.<\/li>\n<li><strong>BYOS<\/strong>: Traveling with your own <a href=\"https:\/\/restonic.com\/es\/blog-es\/how-to-choose-best-sheets-for-bed-9933\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sheets<\/a> gives the scent and feel of being \u201chome sweet home.\u201d If your skin is sensitive to detergents you\u2019ll have no worries.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Spray the room<\/strong>. Pack lavender linen spray or a comfortable sleep scent. Motel chemicals can be overpowering and affect certain allergies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"no-clear\">What do at the hotel when you arrive<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Choose a good room.<\/strong> Request to be midway along the hallway. Typically, this is the quietest part of the floor, away from the elevator, vending machines and housekeeping closets.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Avoid pool-facing rooms.<\/strong> The view will be pretty but tend to have late night guests \u2013 despite closing times \u2014 and early morning Marco Polo games. Remember, noise echoes off water.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Requesting a room.<\/strong> Ask for at least 3 levels above the bar, banquet rooms or other public spaces. Surprising how many floors the pulse and thumping of the \u201cMacarena\u201d can travel.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pick your room.<\/strong> Is the hotel going through or recently completed renovations? Avoid floors adjacent to remodeling projects. But you do want a remodeled floor \u2013 cleaner, smells fresher and newer linens.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Traveling with a friend?<\/strong> Request two beds. You\u2019ll get a better night\u2019s sleep if snoozing alone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"no-clear\">Prep for snoozing in your hotel room<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Avoid dinner food comas.<\/strong> A churning belly interferes with sleep.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Enjoy a nightcap.<\/strong> A <a href=\"https:\/\/restonic.com\/blog\/alcohol-sleep-dont-mix\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">small glass of wine<\/a> after dinner might be just what you need to set the stage for relaxing. Keep it moderate and indulge at least 2 hours before you plan to sleep.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Report disturbances.<\/strong> Don\u2019t hesitate to inform the front desk if noises in the hallway or other guest rooms become excessive and make it impossible for you to sleep. It\u2019s not tattling!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pick your pillow.<\/strong> If you\u2019re leaving your favorite pillow at home, be sure to request one comparable. Hotels stock firmer pillows in closets or have a \u201csecret\u201d stash. If all fails bring your own pillow for head snuggling.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Time to snooze better in your motel room<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hang the \u201cdo not disturb sign\u201d on the door.<\/strong> Some motels begin housekeeping at 8 am.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Set backup wake up calls.<\/strong> Using both your phone and the front desk will ensure you wake up on time.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Take a bath or shower.<\/strong> Raising your body temperature in the <a href=\"https:\/\/restonic.com\/es\/blog-es\/sleep-spa\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">water <\/a>then stepping into the cool air sets the stage for sleep \u2013 your body temperature naturally lowers when you sleep.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bring a night light.<\/strong> Hang it on the wall near the bathroom \u2013 you won\u2019t fall over random furniture for a midnight tinkle.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Flip through the television.<\/strong> Choose a mellow show or movie, avoid \u201cThe Shining\u201d and other horror flicks. Pick soothing music if scrolling on your phone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"no-clear\">Under the covers and ready for better sleep<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Foot traffic.<\/strong> If constant foot traffic or buzzing from the vending machines are driving you bananas, request a room change. Most hotels should give you the option \u2013 yes it\u2019s a pain for you \u2013 but you want to ensure you\u2019re getting the sleep you deserve.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Get out of bed.<\/strong> Instead of tossing and turning or staring at the television like a zombie, read a magazine or take a quick walk.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Staying in a hotel should be exciting!
