It\u2019s one of the most common sleep tips \u2013 but is it good advice? Can too much caffeine can be disruptive to your regular sleep routine? The popularity of energized drinks and snacks \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/restonic.com\/blog\/energy-drinks-kids\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">especially in children<\/a> \u2013 are on the rise.<\/p>\n<p>It doesn\u2019t take much effort to measure your daily caffeine intake. But how late is too late in the day to consume caffeine? What\u2019s a good amount of caffeine to consume in one serving? Are there long term effects from consuming caffeine?<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"no-clear\">The science behind caffeine<\/h2>\n<p>We may love our caffeine but what is it? Caffeine comes from the German word, kafee and the French word caf\u00e9, meaning coffee. Caffeine, one of the most-used psychoactive drugs in the world, is a stimulant found in more than 60 types of plants \u2013 most commonly tea leaves, coffee beans &amp; cocoa beans. Caffeine produces an intensely bitter white powder when purified creating a distinctive taste in drinks. After ingesting, the drug is completely absorbed within 30 \u2013 45 minutes and can last up to 4 hours, depending on the amount.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can you consume too much caffeine?<\/strong>\u00a0Surprisingly, the amount of caffeine a product isn\u2019t listed on the food label. If there were dangers to consuming too much caffeine the law would require it, right? Unfortunately, the law has not caught up yet. Consuming caffeine 3 and even 6 hours before bedtime can reduce total sleep time by more than 1 hour each night. The study claims <a href=\"https:\/\/restonic.com\/es\/blog-es\/early-riser?lang=es\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cmorning people\u201d<\/a> who consumed caffeine during the day appeared more likely to awaken in the middle of the night when compared to \u201cnight owls\u201d.
